Swimming as exercise

10 posts in this topic

I love to swim. I have always loved, as far back as I can remember. The best part is that swimming is also good exercise. It is especially for me, due to injury. I can get some movement in without great risk of hurting myself worse. You get resistance without all the impact.

Do you like swimming? Do you think it is good exercise?

Swimming is a good exercise. No other physical activities burn as much calorie as swimming.  However, I don't know how to swim. I have never done swimming. Its not that I have never tried swimming. I tried couple of times and I failed miserably. Now I am too old to learn swimming. However, I love to watch people swimming

Yes, you can overdo it and get sore. Sometimes, when you engage in a different activity, you end up working muscles that you forgot you had. ;)

You're never too old to learn, Binu. You just have to relax and start slowly. Don't expect to be able to learn instantly. The best way to start (when you aren't little any more) is to learn to float on your back. Once you are comfortable with that and can keep yourself afloat, the rest should be cake.

I just love swimming. That is different thing that I am not doing it regularly. But I like it for sure. About exercising, Yes I believe that it is one kind of good form of exercising. And I have also heard that it can even burn more calories than running. I am not sure about this thing, but yes it is good way of exercising.

Swimming is the best all-around exercise for me. It was for most people until someone claimed it was sex xD. What I like about it is I get to work out my body without sweating. I love that it doesn't put pressure on my knees or in any particular part of the body. I learned to swim when I was 5 at a small private pool and have been swimming regularly since.

When I was younger I used to do a lot of running and was at the gym 3 and 4 times a week. As I've got older though I have started to swim a lot more, as not only is it a good cardio exercise, it's also a non-impact exercise as well so that means that it's less strenuous on your joints and I think that's important to think about as you get older.

Some people tend to think that they have to cut down on the amount of exercise they do, but that's not the case at all, they just have to choose which exercises they do more cautiously but swimming can be done at any age.

I think swimming is one of the best exercise to do. I'm actually a swimmer and I joined several competitions when I was in high school. I really miss those days when I used to swim every single day. However, recently I wasn't able to go swimming in light of the fact that I'm a busy person. One of my goals is to have a pool at my house so I can swim whenever I feel like to :)

Yes,, that's exactly why I want to do it. Good resistance but not all the impact. I want the exercise. I just don't want to hurt myself to get it.

It's not just about being older (I'm not THAT old! haha), but also about previous issues that have left me with some physical limitations. Regardless, I think it's a great source of exercise for most anyone who wants to do it. Everyone has to find what works best for them, and this is my thing. :D

I spend around half to one hour every day at early morning hours for work out.  I find it very relaxing and really rejuvenating.  It keep be refreshed for the rest of the day.  Moreover, I think the quality of air we breathe is good at morning hours as there is less traffic and factories that expel poisonous gas.   I often choose an open area with some greenery around.  Another thing is that we can focus on what we do in early morning as there are hardly any distracters.
What do you think is the best time for exercise?  Is it morning, afternoon, late evening or night?
